The date was November 27th, 1984. On this wet, windy Tuesday the temperature was around 11 degrees Celsius, a good day to be working inside, in the warm still house. Having a perfect harmony of flavours, Caol Ila 1984 is the ultimate representative of whiskies distilled at Islay during the glorious 80s. This release comes from Cask #5773, a single refill butt filled on that day. It’s the precious champion of a new style of Caol Ila then just introduced, whose flavours sing in even greater harmony.

Appearance
Bright Polished brass.
Body
Light to Medium.
Nose
Layers of mellow aromas.
Palate
The taste is rich and textured; big, bold and smoky in taste. A rich, fruity sweetness and salty savouriness combine to suggest sweet-glazed meat roasting on the barbecue.
Finish
With a long, smoky-spicy finish, this is truly a whisky with soul.
