Linkwood

1981 - Single Malt Whisky - Prima & Ultima Second Release

70cl / 52.9% ABV

Part of the first pioneering trial exploring different maturation processes at the distillery, this triple-rare expression gives it an incredible depth. The rich flavours and aromas of a PX/Oloroso-seasoned cask are deeply integrated with the creamy texture and spicy, toasted characters brought by the new American Oak.The Prima & Ultima 2nd Release has been personally hand-selected by Master of Malts Maureen Robinson; “This lovely Linkwood comes from a special small batch matured for twelve years in refill casks, then set aside to double mature for more than a quarter of a century in four casks of new Pedro Ximenez/Oloroso seasoned American Oak. As you might imagine, we have very little of it. With its long, sweet-spicy and warming finish leaving a lingering hint of chocolate, this is truly a unique whisky".

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Deep amber.

Body

Full bodied.

Nose

Profoundly rich, the nose offers notes of dark, moist Christmas cake, mince pies and crystalised orange peel, backed by polished oak.

Palate

The texture is smoothly creamy and the sweet taste is intensely fruity, with rich notes of ripe plum. The sweetness stays throughout, the second maturation also contributing to an oaky dryness. A drop of water even increases the sweet smoothness.

Finish

Long, sweet-spicy and warming finish leaving a lingering hint of chocolate.
